Common Chickweed

A photographic collection and brief reference to help identify Wildflowers found in New York

Common Chickweed
- Stelleria media

Pink Family

Naturalized alien Annual with weak stems that sprawl on the ground forming mats. It is a prolific seed producer and once established it persists making it a obnoxious weed in a garden. It does have a shallow root system so weeding is not that big a chore except new plants continue to sprout throughout the growing season.

Found: Roadsides, waste places, fields, gardens - prefers moist soil
Height: 4 - 16 inch
If it's not freezing outside then it's probably blooming.
